Ugly American

Ugh. This morning, on BBC News, an American stuck in the Bangkok airport was shown bitching out a young Thai woman because he was inconvenienced by the political action taking place there. She was patiently trying to explain that this was about her country and its future and all he could do was loudly bitch that tomorrow was a major holiday in the U.S. and she was messing up his life for this "cockamamie" protest. It was embarrassingly ugly. I can understand that the American was upset but to be so dismissive of Thailand's political turmoil because he was inconvenienced -- ridiculous.

Yeesh, I know! What's worse is that no one -- really, no one else -- has commented on this aside from yourself and one other blog. Hopefully one of his fellow passengers smacked him down when he was finally able to get on a plane. What a douchebag.

Yes, I totally agree. I saw this tosspot of an American on ITN news on MSN videos. Wearing the obligatory baseball cap and succeeding in being as condescending as possible, he firmly believed that his HOLIDAY - in itself a PRIVILEGE - was more important than a group of people protesting a political cause. Using the word "cock-a-mamie" - in itself a war-crime - he drawled in his irritating whine that the protesters were spoiling his national holiday. Pure arrogance - his is the only nation that celebrates "thanksgiving" - Why on EARTH should anyone not American give two hoots about it? I find this attitude immensely frustrating. He was on their soil and should have had some F****** respect.
On the flip side of the coin, absolutely loving the Irishman. Chilled out and happy to wait things through.
