Xenophobia
The xenophobia of some lawmakers in my state never ceases to amaze me. The former governnor (good guy for the most part) proposes a bill to allow the children of illegal immigrants to attend college as in-state students if they've gone to high school in the state for four years. Initially, strong support. Then the anti immigration forces come out and surprise, surprise -- lawmakers who formerly signed on are
dropping their names off the bill. Idiots -- doesn't it make sense to educate these kids so that they can hold good jobs and contribute to society, etc.? And, after all, most of us are descended from immigrants who were all ILLEGAL! Oy.
